Compare Texas electricity plans using your own usage.

Power to Choose prices every plan at 1,000 kWh a month. We price each plan at what your home actually uses. Free. No sign-up. No electricity company pays us; our only revenue is an optional $29/year subscription.

ElectricityFinder ranks the plans we find for your ZIP code and utility by what each one would cost you over a year, based on your own monthly kilowatt-hours rather than the 1,000 kWh average almost every comparison site advertises. Enter a Texas ZIP code and your usage, or connect your smart meter, and you get the plans ranked for your home, as described below, with the arithmetic behind the order.

Why the advertised rate is not what you pay

A Texas retail plan is not a single per-kWh number. It is a base charge, an energy rate that can change at usage thresholds, bill credits that only apply if you cross a specific level, and your utility's delivery charges, which are the same no matter which retail provider you pick. Because of that structure, a plan that wins at 1,000 kWh a month can lose at 2,000 kWh, and a plan built around a credit at 1,000 kWh is worth nothing to a household that never gets there. Texas usage is also seasonal — summer air conditioning can double a month's consumption — so the plan that fits an annual average often does not fit any individual month. Comparing on your real twelve-month curve is what shows which plan has the lowest projected cost for the way your household actually uses power.

How the comparison works

  1. Enter your ZIP code and usage. Type your monthly kWh from your bills, upload a Smart Meter Texas file, or use the estimator if you do not have a usage history yet.
  2. Connect your smart meter (optional). If your meter supports it, we authenticate with Smart Meter Texas under our own broker registration and pull your interval data with your one-time authorization, so the comparison runs on measured reads instead of typed estimates.
  3. We price every plan against your curve. Each plan's base charges, tiered rates, usage credits and delivery charges are applied month by month to your own usage, and the results are ordered by projected annual cost, lowest first. Plans whose price depends on conditions (bill credits, free nights, usage tiers) are listed after plans with a plain price.
  4. Check the plan and switch. Read the plan's Electricity Facts Label, cross-reference it on the PUCT's marketplace, and enroll with the provider directly.

How we are paid

No electricity provider pays us for the plan you choose — we make $0 on which plan you pick, and no provider can pay to move up the list. The order comes from projected annual cost at your usage, as described above. ElectricityFinder is an independent comparison tool operated by Odigital LLC, an electricity broker registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas; we do not sell electricity and we are not affiliated with any retail electric provider. The comparison is free and requires no account or card. The service is funded only by an optional $29/year subscription.

Check our work

Any projection we show is an estimate built from usage data, not a guarantee, and your actual bill depends on your real usage, your utility's delivery charges and the plan's own terms. Please verify any plan yourself on PowerToChoose.org, the PUCT's official marketplace, read that plan's Electricity Facts Label — the authoritative source for its exact rates, fees and terms — and compare it against your own usage history before you switch.

Electricity plans by city

In Texas, which plans you can buy and what they cost depend on your transmission and distribution utility, not on your ZIP code, so every address on the same utility sees the same plans at the same filed rates. Each city page names the utility for one ZIP code in that city and shows the current plans on it (all cities):

Common questions

How is this different from Power to Choose?

Power to Choose lists rates at a fixed 1,000 kWh usage level. Texas usage is spiky — heavy air conditioning in summer, heating in winter — so the plan that looks lowest-cost at 1,000 kWh may not be the lowest-cost plan for your actual year. We apply each month's rate to your own usage for that month, including base charges, usage credits and tier thresholds.

Where does the plan data come from?

Plan data comes from the Power to Choose marketplace operated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), refreshed daily. Each plan links to its own Electricity Facts Label, which is the authoritative source for that plan's exact rates, fees and terms.

How do we make money?

No electricity company pays us, so we make $0 from which plan you pick and no company can pay to rank higher. We are paid only by people who choose our optional $29/year subscription; the comparison is free. Plans are ordered by projected yearly cost at your usage, lowest first, with plans whose price depends on conditions (bill credits, free nights, usage tiers) listed after plans with a plain price.

Do I need my usage history to start?

No. You can type your monthly kWh from your bills, connect your smart meter through Smart Meter Texas for interval-accurate reads, or use the estimator, which builds a usage pattern from your home size and type.
